Forgotten Female Composers Series. CITY SOUNDSCAPES

  • Tagtigall 6A Herrfurthstraße Berlin, BE, 12049 Germany (map)

The second season of the Forgotten Female Composers Series, directed by Lysistrata Chamber Collective, is in full swing!

This series exclusively features music by female and non-binary composers from past to present; we share music that shouldn't go unheard, discover new stories together, and reflect on what can be learnt from untold histories.

CITY SOUNDSCAPES. Inspired by urban spaces

Cities have the capability of providing something for everybody, only because, and only when, they are created by everybody.” - Jane Jacobs (1916-2006)

Cities - Budapest, Buenos Aires, Paris, Prague, Manhattan, Munich and Vienna, to name a few, have been central to the works of many composers. Specific architecture and infrastructure, being surrounded by people of many cultures, creates a special vibe and energy unique to each city. This all inspires sounds, structures and harmonies making the music distinctly related to the home city of its composer. We are looking forward to sharing these unique sounds and atmospheres from Alma Mahler’s Die stille Stadt’ - the calm city, to Gabriella Lena Franks’ bustling Manhattan Serenade, moving through the sad stories of Chernobyl with Felicitas Kuckuck’s Tschernobyl in tausend Kinderschuhen into sharing joy and exuberance in Claudia Montero’s Suite de los Buenos Aires.

There will also be a special selection of wines from EKHI, the first wine brand dedicated to French women winemakers. Just as in the music world, the names and stories of women winemakers are still to be discovered in viticulture circles - be it professional or public.
